Taking your dog to United Kingdom
Great Britain requires a microchip, rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate or valid pet passport.
Last checked October 2026
What you'll usually need
- Microchip before (or at) the rabies vaccination.
- Rabies vaccination, then wait 21 days before travel.
- Animal health certificate issued by an official vet.
- Tapeworm treatment for dogs before arrival (from most countries).
Travelling from South Africa
South Africa is an 'unlisted' country: expect a rabies blood test and a 3-month wait after the sample is taken.
